How to display story points on backlog?

Daniil Bohatyr August 28, 2023

Hi, we have story points estimation in tasks/issue tickets but I can't find how to enable it's display on a backlog?
Some manuals says that I need to find a "Card Layout" on "Board Settings", but there is no such thing.

Hi @Daniil Bohatyr

The card layout option is a thing, but only in Company Managed projects.

Team Managed projects don't have these board configuration options.

So if you require or wish to use this you would need to use a Company Managed project.

Or you first need to change the estimation setting on the board of your company managed project.

Or use the correct story point field. Team Managed projects use Story Point Estimate, but Company Managed projects use Story Points

Thank you for an answer. So, I still can display story points in team-managed project or it is required to switch to company-managed anyway?

Thanks, I've edited my question below

@Marc - Devoteam I didn't understand the last sentence: "Or use the correct story point field. Team Managed projects use Story Point Estimate, but Company Managed projects use Story Points"

Means there is no possibility to display SP in team-managed project?

And as I understand, there is no way to change current project's type to company-managed?

Hi @Daniil Bohatyr

To switch from Team to cOmpany managed or the other way the best practices are in the following article:

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/migrate-between-team-managed-and-company-managed-projects/

You can use Story Points in Team Managed project, but team managed projects use the field named "Story Point Estimate" in Jira.

This field is not used in Company Managed projects, as that uses the field named "Story Points"

In a Team Managed project us can use SP as in your example, but not show it in the backlog. This can only be done in a Company Managed project.

@Marc - Devoteam I have the same original question as Daniil.  I have two Team Managed Software projects.

In one of them the Story Point Estimate displays in the detail view, the card view on the Board (Active Sprint) and the backlog view.

In the other, the Story Point Estimate displays correctly in the issue detail view, however - the SPEs are not displaying in the card on the board or in the backlog view.

Again . .both are team managed software projects.

Can you tell me what the difference might be and how to resolve?

As a 1-year later resurrection for you and anyone else wondering what the solve here is:

For me, the difference between my two Team-Based projects was whether the "Estimation" feature was enabled (Left hand sidebar Project Settings -> Features -> "Estimation" near the bottom).

Enabling that Estimation feature got all of the nice story point stuff on the backlog view, and should just work as long as you were already using the "Story Point Estimate" field.
