How to disconnect Jira from Crowd?

Sebastian Nohn September 13, 2012

After a long time running Jira 4.0, I'd like to upgrade to 5.1.4. At the same time, I'd not like to use Crowd anymore but the Jira internal user directory, as I'm more or less the only user on my Jira instance and Crowd just complicates things for me.

Importing a 4.0 backup into 5.1.4 fails, because I don't have crowd configured in Jira 5.1.4.

Is there a way to disconnect Jira 4.0 from Crowd before importing or is there a way to force Jira 5.1.4 to continue without crowd?

Hi Sebastian

As the first shot, you should upgrade JIRA and CROWD to the latest versions. It will move the users details to the new user management structure regarding the changes between those JIRA versions.

After that, you may try to do that just moving users between directories, which is one of the JIRA 5.1.x features. However, this is only available between internal directories (JIRA internal directory or Delegated one).

Beyond this, I believe that you'll have to perform some SQL queries on trying to change the existing users directories info. The following post has a valid SQL procedures, which could be helpful.
