How to create a project planning board using Jira Software Cloud out of the box functionality

I am trying to create a project planning board with vertical columns for each month and horizontal swimlanes for the different groups that will be working on the project using Jira Software Cloud out of the box functionality (No Add-Ins or Portfolio). Configuring the board is simple enough, the problem I encountered is that Jira requires the columns to have an Issue status mapped to each column and does not permit the same status to mapped to more than one column. This limitation prevents the Issues from being freely moved between the columns on the board. I need the ability to either assign no status to the columns or to be able to assign the same status (e.g., Open) to all of the columns.
