How to connect JIRA Service Desk Application v3.3.0 with TOPdesk?

A new customer is using Topdesk (version and platform unknown), they want a connection with our JIRA Servicedesk v3.3.0 (server). I'm not quite sure about their goal but it seems they want to create a synchronisation between their Topdesk issues and our JIRA Servicedesk issues.

  1. Is this possible and what do we need to facilitate this?
  2. Are there any best practices available? I can't find what I'm looking for in the Atlassian documentation.

They can read and write your JIRA (using their account credentials, and restricted in the same way they are when they use the gui), by using the REST API.
