How to configure linked issues?

Hello,

Pardon my asking, but how does linked issues work?

I set one issue blocked by another issue, but I can close both independently.

Thanks for help.

It's usually just for information purposes, by defaut it doesn't have any functional use.

if you want to block until related issues are closed, why not use sub-tasks and put a subtask blocking condition in JIRA workflow?

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+Sub-tasks#ConfiguringSub-tasks-Blockingissueworkflowsbysub-taskstatus

Or you can pay for a plugin to give you a workflow condition

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.fca.jira.plugins.workflowToolbox.workflow-toolbox

thanks for fast answer, I thought that would have a little bit more functionality
