It would be useful to change the assignee from the issue details sidebar however this section only gives a read-only view. We are required to edit the ticket in order to change the assignee (and the priority too). Is there a fix that can change this option?

Considering that assigning issues is a big part of planning this is ridiculously complicated. I should be able to select multiple cards, right-click and say "Assign cards to user".
