How to change a custom field's value based on another custom field's value ?

Marie Chris Aguillon October 16, 2017

Hi,

I am new to JIRA. I'm trying to create a customer name custom field and it's corresponding customer ID custom field. I want to be able to automatically change the customer ID field depending on the customer name I used from the customer ID field. I want to do this on issue creation and edit screens. Another same scenario would be to auto fill a part description field depending on the part number. I tried using the cascading list custom field but I could not find a way to default the child option to a certain value and not the "none" value.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

This is very doable. Can you answer the following?

Do these values you want to reference already exist in another system or are you going to create and store them in JIRA?

If in another system do you access via SQL or an API?

Are you using JIRA server or cloud?

Hello Ethan,

Thank you for the response. I've already created custom fields for these ( Customer name, Customer ID) in JIRA . The data is stored in JIRA and I am using JIRA server.

Regards,

Chris
