How to build a dashboard item for jira

I need to create a gadget for Jira that shows test hours per week in the form of line chart. This is similar to created vs resolved chart in Jira or may be I can use the created vs resolved chart gadget and add test hours column to plot on single chart.

I am quite new to development and don't know from where I should start.
