How to archive all issues when we want to stop using Jira?

Hi, we decided that we want to stop using Jira (business cause) but we want to archive all of the history we currently have on Jira (issues, releases and comments). How can we do this? Is it possible to export it straight to Confluence or csv is the only way to save it? Can we export it to html so you can search within the archives? We did this with our Basecamp archived issues.

Hi Natalia,

Based on your needs, the approach might differ. The instance backup (XML) is the best option for eventual future restore, that being said, it's not really user friendly if you need to access the archive from time to time.

Another option would be to backup your database, which is having the same drawback of not being that easy to read from.

A CSV export might be the easiest to generate as you can read it using Excel afterward, even if it won't look like an application anymore :) That being said, it's pretty easy to use a CSV input to feed a webpage with formatting to browse the archive, a lot of creativity can be used to make this happen!

Please note that the database backup can also be restored anytime later but would need a DB server when the CSV export is straight forward!

Is there any way to save uploaded files from all the issues?

The only easy way to backup issues and attached files is to use Jira's backup feature (XML format) which also backup JIRA_HOME directory.

An alternative for easy recovery would be to backup the virtual machine and its DB system where Jira is currently running and restore the VM image later on.

OK thanks, we won't be using this solution. I found UNITO app that integrates Jira issues with Asana.
