How to I install 2-Factor authentication for Jira Cloud?

Chris H July 18, 2017

Every 2-Factor authentication seems like it's only available for the server based Jira.  I would like the users on my system to get a notification to their phone, they accept, then they gain access to our account.  How do I do this?

Thanks!

it seems there is new support for this via the Identity Manager: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/enforced-two-step-verification-938859738.html

Hi Chris,

There is a knowledge base article that attempts to anser this question titled Atlassian Cloud: Is 2Factor authentication available with Atlassian Cloud?:

Question

Is 2Factor verification available with Atlassian Cloud?

Answer

2-Factor authentication (a.k.a. "2F" or "2-step verification") is available when you use SAML authentication with your Cloud site or when you integrate with Google Apps.  In Google Apps, you can turn on 2F authentication for your Atlassian Cloud login security.

Atlassian is looking at providing 2-Factor authentication with Atlassian account login (natively).  You can watch and vote on the feature here:  CLOUD-9479 - 2 Factor Authentication with Atlassian Account Open

Please vote on CLOUD-9479 to add impact and add any relevant comments for our developers.

Cheers,

You'd swap to SAML.

The Atlassian Account system for Cloud accounts does not yet support any form of two factor authentication, but if you use the other options, you can get some support.

Hi Chris,

Your description matches the SecSign ID SAML plugin for JIRA (and other Atlassian services) perfectly. Have a look at https://www.secsign.com/developers/atlassian/2fa-saml-jira-cloud-identity-manager/ for the integration with the cloud manager and https://www.secsign.com/developers/atlassian/jira_on-premise_2fa_sso_saml/ for the on-premise solution of the plugin.

SecSign ID offers convenient 2FA for most Atlassian services with your mobile device. The user accepts the login with his phone and is securely authenticated. He doesn’t even notice the strong cryptographic protection in the background. More information about the login procedure and the protection mechanisms are available here: https://www.secsign.com/business/two-factor-authentication/

Let me know if you have any questions about SecSign and the SAML 2FA.
