How do i setup Jira to send me an email when a ticket is opened or updated?

Been playing around with this and cant seem to figure it out, how can I receive emails when a ticket is open?

Open up the project administration, and look for "notifications".  The scheme in there is a set of rules about "what events should be emailed to people".  For this case, look at the "issue created" line.
