How do i change the status of parent issue from its child issue while they both are using the different workflows?

Unless you have something going on behind the scenes, the two issues are seperate and can be moved through the workflows independent of each other.

Find/write a listener or post-function that will run "move parent issue through workflow" when it traps an appropriate change on the child issue.
