How do I make the Epics viewable in the List View to be viewable in the Backlog View?

Natsuki Sacks October 30, 2024

My team is having an issue where the Epics that we created are showing up in our List view but not our Backlog or Kanban view. I am unsure if this is a syncing issue, but please let me know if anyone has any thoughts.

We can see Epics assigned but they aren't attached to the actual backlog page. (image attached) How do I make sure that the Epics are also visible on the backlog page?epics.JPG

Hello @Natsuki Sacks

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What type of project is the SV project? Get that information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

On this board if you click on the ... button in the upper right corner (above all the sprints, not in the header for each sprint) and select Configure board.

Do you then see options like this?

If so, click on the General option and tell us what is displayed in the Filter Query section.

The SV project is a Team-managed software.

I am not able to see a side menu like you have when I configure the board. I've attached an image of the menu that I get. configure board settings.JPG

Thank you for that additional information. The options I showed don't apply to a built-in board that comes with a Team Managed project.

Can you show us the status/columns mapping for the board? Please provide a screen image that shows all the columns.

What is the Status that is currently assigned to the Epics?

If the Epics are in a Status that is mapped to the right-most column of the board, then those Epics are considered "done" and will not display in the Epics panel on the Backlog screen. Display of the Epics in that panel is based on the Status of the Epics.

These are the column mappings for our board. All of the Epic statuses are To-Dostatus epic.JPGcols.JPG

Thank you for that additional information.

Can you show the status/column mapping information that is available when you navigate to Configure board?

Can you provide a screen image of one of the missing epics that shows enough information that we can see the issue key and the current status of the Epic?

Yes, sorry! Capture.JPG

Can you provide a screen image of one of the missing epics that shows enough information that we can see the issue key and the current status of the Epic? Example:

Hello! The epic has the same status as yours: epic.JPG

Related to the first image in your original post:

Can you post a screen image that shows the full browser tab contents? You can obscure confidential data. Example: the items boxed in red are the things I specifically want to see.

Hello @Natsuki Sacks

I apologize for the delay in replying to you.

Are you still experiencing this problem? If you found a solution can you share it here to benefit the rest of the community?

So far I have not been able to reproduce the problem you are seeing.

In a Team Managed project Epics should display in the Epics panel when:

- no filters are selected (the pull-downs you see above the issue list)

- and Epics have been created in the project

- and the Epics are not in a green-colored/done status

All of these conditions seem to be met based on the images you have previously provided.

If you are still experiencing the problem, I can reach out to other community leaders to see if they can review this post and suggest other items to check.
