I'm setting up my first JIRA installation now. A critical piece to our workflow is to seek customer approval for work to be done. I think I can get there with associating a screen with a workflow transition, but how can I notify the customer that the issue is waiting on them to approve it.
Make sure the customer exists as a user
Come up with a way of identifying them on the issue - are they the reporter? Could you assign it to them? A user picker? Watcher? (Just the basic ideas - how you do it is up to you!)
Create a new "event" like "needs to be approved"
Change your workflow so that it has a "waiting for approval" status, and the transitions that go IN to this status have a post-function that "fires an event" (which, obviously, should be "needs to be approved")
In the project notification scheme, make sure that the line "waiting for approval" includes however you identified them in my second line...
