How do I burn down part of the story points in 1 sprint and the rest in a new sprint

Juanita De Jong March 13, 2019

When a story is not completed in a sprint, how do I show how many points have been burnt in this sprint and how do I carry over the remainder of the points to the next sprint?

Hi @Juanita De Jong ,

In Agile, stories that are not completed in the sprint do not count towards the total points, and the velocity for the team is based on the points for completed stories, not the points for all work efforts regardless of whether the stories are completed or not. . So, by definition there are no "partially complete" stories and the points are not split between what was done in one sprint and what is left over for the next.  If you don't finish a story and move it into the backlog or carry it over into the next sprint all of the points go with it;

There is no way to split them up in Jira because doing so would overstate the team's velocity.

Hope this helps,
