Is there an easy way to assign an issue type (Customer Support Escalation) to a group (CS team)?
Looks like you can't do this via the "component" default assignee. Found some info on changing the Workflow to do this but that sounded a bit complicated for a simple change? Suggestions are appreciated.

JIRA only supports assigning of issues to a single individual.
