I am using the default layout in the Atlassian Cloud. Team-managed project using scrum.

I have added Story Points to the project:

I have added Story Points to the default screens:

I go into Configure for the story issue, but the Story Points field is unavailable.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi @Dave Tavares -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Team-managed projects (TMP) use the "Story point estimate" field, and that should be available by default.  And, field configuration for TMP is available from the settings by:

  • while viewing an issue, select Configure to change the fields
  • from the board or backlog view, select Project Settings, issue types, and then the one you want to view / update for field configuration

Company-managed projects (CMP) use the "Story points" field.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Dave Tavares ,

Welcome to the community :)

More about Estimation for both types of projects can be read in our documentation pages:

We are currently tracking feedback and updates about the intention to have a unified Story points metric across both project management styles here: JSWCLOUD-17173: One story point field across team-managed projects and company-managed projects.

Quick notes

  • When a Software team-managed project is created, it also creates a board; this type of board will only display issues from that project and does not have any configuration available to change this. Team-managed boards are prepared to estimate using Story points (meaning the "Story points estimate" field) or Time (the "Original estimate" field), depending on what is configured in the board configuration.
  • In Company-managed projects, you can create boards either along with a project or independent from one, and you can also customize the board filter, meaning a single
    • It is entirely possible to modify the board filter of a company-managed board so it can include multiple projects, but if you decide to add a Team-managed project to the board filter of Company-managed projects, you will find that the Estimation and Sprints between the two are not really compatible.

Thank You,

Prachi
