How can we explain the discrepancies between the various reports provided in Jira?

Aaron Smith December 16, 2015

We just finished a sprint and three reports are displaying different values for the number of completed story points within the sprint.

  • Sprint Report = 931 points completed
  • Velocity Chart = 934 points completed

As an admin, any advice where to look?

Hi Aaron,

We’ve recently released a fix to make the reported completed values to be accurate on both the Sprint Report and Velocity Chart to the following fix versions:

* 2015-10-26 Cloud (JIRA Software Cloud)
* JIRA Software Server 7.0.4
* JIRA Agile 6.7.12

For more details, please see https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/GHS-8776.

Updating to one of these newer versions should fix the issue. But if it doesn't, please let us know.

Cheers,
Ashley

I would do a search for issues in the sprint that were completed. (first) and export to excel and sum them.  You can also look at the sprint report as it should tell you which issues were completed, right?  Seems like velocity would be the total number of issues completed period whereas the sprint report may exclude items that were added after the sprint started.
