How can a user see the comments in the issue navigator?

JA Choat March 22, 2012

Hi I am new to Jira and Jira administration, so please excuse my ignorance. We have installed Jira and are using it, but one of my users (manager) wants to see all of the comments listed in the issue navigator when his query returns. We went to the Configure columns under the tools menu to add the comments field, but it is not there. How can we do this? I have searched the knowledge base, but the only thing I found says that it is easy with the Jira Tools Plugin. I installed that plugin, but it still doesn't work. The knowledge base was quite vague, so I would like some instruction as to how to accomplish this. Thanks!

Hi JA,

This might be tricky to do. Comments to issues are a one to many relationship. So if there are 10 comments for an issue, that issue exists once, but there are 10 distinct comments. If JIRA allowed you to display this - aside from performance issues and complexity - every issue would be repeated 10 times.

If it is important you could try and query the database directly.

Alternatively you could look at this plugin (I have not tried it myself) to get the last comment: https://studio.plugins.atlassian.com/wiki/display/LSTCMT/Last+Comment+Custom+Field

It's been a few years since this topic posted. But now in 2017, I have the same question.

The link is no longer available. Is this addon still available. I too would like to be able to get the last comment to appear in the columns of the issue navigator when the query returns.
