How can I construct my Jira Installation (Permission Levels)?

John Tumbleson March 8, 2016

Hello,

I have 2 scenarios for constructing my JIRA installation based on permission. We have 2 different types of working structure.

  1. There needs to be defined a new permission that people will only see just the issues assigned him/her. (Think about there will be a General project like "Work" and people will see only the issues assigned to them on that "Work" project but not the other peoples issues on the same project)
  2. There needs to be defined a new permission that people will only see the projects (and all issues on those projects) that they have working on. (Think about 2-3 people are working on the same project like "Website Project" and all people in the "Website Project" will see the all issues belongs to that project, whether they've assigned or not.)

How can I construct my JIRA permissions based on these requirements?

Thank you very much.

Permission schemes can do a lot of this, but you need to think it through a lot (it's unusual to want this, so it's obscure to set up)

  1. You do not need a new permission for this, but it's a really very bad idea.  If people can only see what's assigned to them, they have no clue about the world outside their issues.  Whilst it might seem like a good way to focus people, it's also a brilliant way to isolate them and stop them from being useful because they can't use socialised solutions.  To implement it, set up a "security scheme" with a level that says "only assignee can see this" and set that level when needed.
  2. That's easier.  Enable and use "reporter browse" permission - see https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira064/current-reporter-browse-project-permission-720415972.html
