How can I administer jira without an administrator password?

Michael Dowling September 4, 2012

We have long, random password for the Jira administrator, jira-admin, that nobody can remember which is why we have it stored in an encrypted text file and copy and paste it when required. Yesterday I attempted to do just that but Jira claimed the the password was wrong and refused me access.

I tried it again just now, and, instead of refusing me access, it asked for a captcha. But entering the capcha merely results in a new captcha, ad infinitum. The upshot is that we cannot administer Jira.

Help is desparately needed!
