Hello team
I want to add a custom field which is in a type can allow to filter the ticket in JIRA in an issue screen , for example: like Parent.
can you guide me how to do that?
Thanks.
what about this? https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/upcoming-changes-epic-link-replaced-with-parent/
are you familiar with the parent link and hierarchy setup?
Hi @jing_guo,
I am not sure what you are trying to do here. Maybe you can provide more details about where you would like to add this field?
In short, if you want to filter for issues by parent, you can navigate to Filters > View all issues and in basic search, add the Parent field. This will allow you to filter for all issues belonging to an Epic of your choice:
Hope this helps!

Hi , I want to create a custom field for Epic type, and can show this field in the Epic screen.
This custom field needs to be a dropdown list which can allow user to input the Ticket number or summary description to find the corresponding Epic, like the parent field of one story.

That is not possible, @jing_guo . You cannot add an Epic as a parent (nor as a child) of another Epic. They share the same hierarchy level and cannot be mixed.
You can link Epics to other Epics using the classic link issue feature, but that will never be a parent / child relationship.

Hi, I don't need this custom field to be parent (or a child) of an epic, I want this custom field can be a type as a Ticket link. The behavior is similar like a field that you can input something and then a ticket will be shown and you can select , then the value of the field is the selected ticket .
Instead of a simple text type custom field, this allows user to select the existing tickets from the dropdown.
For example: when I create a custom field, which field type I can select to be able to filter a ticket and select this ticket to be the value of the custom field?
Like User Picker type, I can input a username, and then select it, but now I want to be one to select ticket No.

I have the same problem.
This would allow to create a custom super-epic issue type, with epics referring to it, together with a custom hierarchy.
I found that the default 3 levels of JIRA is often not enough for complex systems development.
