Recently when I import a csv file using the External System Import the status change is not logged under the History? Has there been a recent change that caused this? How can this be fixed?

Haven't heard of a change in this area. Also, there's no configuration control to set what to be included or excluded in History and Activity tabs.
May want to raise a support ticket to check your cloud instance:
