Our established workflow relies on assigning issues to groups rather individuals. To cope with the latter, I have created a custom field (type Multi Group Picker) and each time an issue is created the reporter may assign the issue to a group. However, there are circumstances where the issue is opened but not assigned to a group. In this case, we must edit the issue to assign the issue to a group. We'd like to avoid this. Is there any mechanism to create a dedicated button, similar to the "Assign", in the issue screen and not having to edit the issue?
you can add another workflow transition to each of your workflow steps. Name the transition "Assign Group" or so and add a form to the transition where you can change your custom field. The goal of the transition is the step where you come from. If you change the order of the workflow transitions like it is described here, you can make the Workflow-Button "Assign Group" always visible on your main view.
