Google Maps macro failing with too many markers: "Too long request string"

With 20 markers added I get this error from the embedded Google Maps macro. This is a real issue that can be circumvented with e.g. using worse precision, see: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4278053/google-static-maps-url-length-limit

Nevertheless IMO this is not something end-users should worry about. I'm adding my markers by specifying their address BTW.

What can I do to embed a map with many markers, in a user-friendly way?
