Getting meaningful number to a custom field based on Rank field

Yaham Jayasuriya (JIRA Admin) December 7, 2017

Hi,

In JIRA Cloud backlog, when we order the issues, it will update a rank field base on the issue position.  I want a meaningful number for a custom field base on the Rank field (eg:- 1, 2, 3)

0|hzzzzz:   -  1
0|i00007:  -  2
0|i0000f:   -  3
0|i0000n:  -  4
0|i0000v:   - 5

Is it possible? Any one you face this issue? , can it achieve from a plugin or other way.

No.  The reason the rank field is not a number is because numbers don't really work for it.  The basic example is "Five issues ranked 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.  I need to rank issue 5 in between 2 and 3".  It gets a lot worse when you think your way through that more.

You aren't going to get a "meaningful" number out in a useful way.

The real question is why do you want that. You can sort by rank in JQL filter
