Getting Jira tasks from one Board to appear on another board

Giulia Klein October 24, 2024

I am a PM and I have created a project board. I currently am responsible for adding tasks to that board and assigning them to various teams. Each team has it's own separate Jira board. I would like the tasks I create to appear on the teams respective Jira boards so they can track it in their sprints but have it still live in my project board as well. How do I do this?

Hi Giulia - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

How are you identifying the "teams"? However that is, you just add that designation to the filter for each board - each board would require it's own filter.

Thank you for your reply. I have created a custom task field with each team name and then created a new filter to pull all tasks from my board with that team name but I don't understand how to apply it to the existing team board (that board already has a filter).

Is the existing board one that you want to limit the issues? Or show all issues?

Hi @Giulia Klein  Welcome to the community!

To link tasks from your project board to the respective team Jira boards while keeping them visible on both, you can follow these steps:

  1. Use Jira Issue Links:

    • Create tasks in your project board as usual.
    • For each task, use issue links to connect them to the relevant tasks on the team boards. This way, teams can see the connection without needing to duplicate tasks.
  2. Create Filters and Boards:

    • Set up a filter for each team that includes tasks from your project board. You can use JQL (Jira Query Language) to create filters that pull in tasks based on labels, components, or any custom field that signifies the task belongs to a particular team.
    • Create a new board for each team using those filters so that tasks from your project board appear in their respective boards.

Thank you for your reply. I have created a filter but I don't understand how to assign it to an existing board. I don't want to create a new one.
