Forbidding group selection (jira-users) by project admins

Fazila ashraf November 4, 2012

Hi Team

We recently had issues in our environment due to a project admin wrongly handling the bulk user group jira-users in jira.

He tried creating a group time sheet in jira using the gadgets and selected the bulk user group jira-users which had > 30000 users. Because of that, the instance went down.

And also there is another incident were that bulk group is added in developer role of a project. And all the users in the instace got automated emails as per the email notifications set.

Do we have any ways to avoid such issues by hiding the groups from project admins/forbidding the selection?

Do you have any recommended configuration to avoid such cases?

Thanks for you help and assistance!

Regards,

Fazila

I dont think there is any way to hide the groups - the JIRA admin has to be aware of these configurations and settings

Thanks for your reply Avdhesh!

The Jira admins are aware of the group configuration. However, the project admins are not aware and they add the bulk groups to their projects causing lots of confusion.

For now, we have explicitly asked the project admins to beware of those bulk group usage. Still it would be better if we have some ways to restrict them in using those bulk groups.
