Excessive Tickets in JIRA

This is a strategy question. When we have projects, we sometimes end up with tickets that have dozens of issues, which we log as comments using our own text convention. The problem is that the thread of replies within these comments can end up congesting the ticket itself, despite the help of the ">" feature which hides these threads.

Anybody have any success managing this type of situation?

The only way to make sure that this does not happen is to make sure that the issues created is about one context. This is more of a process than the applicaiton. You should advise your maintainers to move or break issues apart if needed.
