Error when upgrading from Jira 6.1.5 to 7.2.6

Hi there

I get this error message after upgrading on startup:

2016-12-28 17:17:08,495 JIRA-Bootstrap ERROR [c.a.s.core.upgrade.DefaultPluginUpgradeManager] Upgrade error: Unexpected exception caught during plugin upgrade: java.lang.IllegalStateException: This v
ersion of JIRA Agile requires a minimum build number of #45 in order to proceed. The latest upgrade task to have been successfully completed is #22. You must uninstall this version of JIRA Agile and attem
pt an upgrade via an intermediary version.

Seems like a plugin upgrade error, but I'm not really sure how all this Agile stuff works. Apparently it's all integrated into the JIRA software now? I do see this in the plugins on Jira:

JIRA Agile - 7.2.8-DAILY20161130154106
Plugin byAtlassian
Enabled
atlassian-licensing-enabled:true
plugin-icon:includes/images/upm/plugin-icon.png
atlassian-data-center-compatible:true
plugin-logo:includes/images/upm/plugin-logo.png
post.update.url:/plugins/servlet/greenhopper/whats-new

So it does seem to be there already. I didn't install "JIRA Agile" just "JIRA software", not sure if there is a difference. Anyways, JIRA seems to be working, except of the message and the error. I haven't used any Agile stuff before, but I would like to.

I'm not sure how to install an "intermediary" version or whether it's possible. Also not sure if I must now uninstall JIRA and re-install, or if this is some kind of internal plugin. I don't see an option to uninstall and re-install, but I'm happy to re-install the "plugin" if possible.

Any pointers on how to proceed would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

You've tried to upgrade too far in one jump.

Go back to the original system and upgrade it in the recommended steps.  (We can save you reading all the docs for each step and recommend them if you tell us your starting point and target versions)

Thanks Nic. What versions do you think I would need to install to get from 6.1.5 to 7.2.6?

That can work, but add-ons complicate it.  I would go from 6.1.5 to 6.4.12 (the 12 was from memory, I mean 6.4.highest), then up to 7.2.6

I ended up having to go 6.4.14 and 7.0.11, but that did the trick. Thanks!
