Enter a default text into the Description Field

Hello everybody,

is it possible, in Jira 5.2.6 to define a default text in the Description Field?

It was possible to do that in former Jira versions but now I can't find this option to do that.

Hi Elke,

At the moment, it is not possible to set the default text or value for issue Description field, or other JIRA system field. There's an existing related request raised in our system, and you may kindly refer to it for more info on the matter:

Since you are interested with the feature, I would suggest you to start following the feature request for further updates on the matter.

However upon a quick investigation on my end, it looks like it may be possible to set the default value for the Description field, by modifying the field velocity template file. More details on this can be found in the following documentation:

That ticket was created in 2004...has over 400 watchers...yet Atlassian hasn't assigned anyone to it and has basically said they'll never implement it. Wow. What a sad joke and a big middle finger to your customers.

@Chris, it is not middle finger but business. There are tons of other request that are more important from Atlassian and their customers point of view.

Default Values plugin allows to add default values for description and number of other fields.

Defaults can be added per project and issue type.
