Easily change status in backlog view

Is there a quick way to change the status of a task from the backlog view?

Right now, to change a task status, I have to do the following:

1. Click the three dots at the top right of the issue view
2. Go to 'More Actions...'
3. Choose a new Workflow status

Ideally I'd like to have the Status field just be a dropdown so I can quickly change the status of an item. Is this possible?

The core scenario this happens is when a task was a dupe or already completed in another task, I'd like to quickly change the task to "Completed" in the backlog view.

It looks like this has been fixed with the new Issues screen. There is now a dedicated status button right at the top!

You can also click on the backlog item and then hit the «.» key (period) for a shortcut to «More actions»

Status is not a simple field (and rightly so).  It's an indicator of where the issue is in your process.

You can only change status by using a transition to move it through the workflow.  Personally, I'd like it to be easier to transition in some places, but I do get that it's not trivial
