I belive this was possible in 4.x, but with the new screens in 5.0 I can figure it out.
What I would like to do is put a link on a internal website that says for any issue please open a JIRA ticket. The link would go to JIRA and default the issue type and project. Once the user logged in, they would automatticly be on the create issue screen with the project and issue type predefined.
At a minimum the project should be defined.
Is this still possible?
It should still be possible. Just find out the correct parameters you need. It will be something like this:
https://xxx/secure/CreateIssue.jspa?pid=11000&issuetype=1&Create=Create
