Difference in Github and Bitbucket

Rob Flesher October 15, 2013

We're trying to decide between Github and Bitbucket, but can't find any documentation of any differences in how they work in Jira.

Is there any difference in the Jira integration for Github and Bitbucket? Are there any features only available in one or the other?

Same question. I haven't found a good comparison either *specific to integration with Jira*.

JIRA uses the DVCS connector for either Bitbucket or Github so generally speaking the integration is the same.

In terms of the differences between the two products, I don't beleive there is a definitive document. Others will hopefully weigh in with their experiences/preferences, etc.

Best I can offer is that you search around. Using your subject line "Difference in Github and Bitbucket" I got a few hits that might be of interest to you:

Thanks for your reply Jason. We already compared the general features of the two products. We were more interested in how they interact with Jira since we could find no documentation on any differences.

If anyone knows of any differences in Jira, please let us know your preference and why.

Thanks!

Hi Rob, did you come to any conclusion of the differences? We are the moment evaluating if we should migrate from gitlab to github or bitbucket and it is of course an intersting aspect to know the integration with JIRA for those tools.
