Details on JIRA XML Backup

  1. In general what all data does 'xml backup utility' of JIRA takes backup?Does it all includes project configuration settings, User and group information, Permission setting?
  2. Does JIRA XML backup satisfies long time archival (LTA) usecases? Has anyone tried this?

XML does contain all the settings you wrote in 1

it does not contain files like avatars, attachments, ...

Thanks for the information. Use case for which I am looking for is to take backup of complete/full JIRA instance before server decommission. And the backup should be retrieval.

you can backup the full server with backup sowftware for windows

or create an SQL DB backup + one of the jira folder (ataachments+avatars)
