Data import

Jose Alfredo Rodriguez Garcia August 15, 2018

Hello Jira team

I initiate my project planning with excel, so I have multiple columns with action items, id, priority, user points. When I import the data, i can only map summary and priority.

Am i missing something or there is a way I can perform this action?

Thanks

For "Story Points" field, please note that by default, the "Story Points" field is only configured for Epic and Story issue types.

So, if you are importing and mapping your issues to another issue type than Epic and Story, you won't see the "Story Points" field while mapping data.

In order to make "Story Points" field appear for other issue types in your project, you need to make sure that the field was associated/added to the "Create Issue" screen for those issue types.

You can do that from the JIRA Administration >> Issues >> Custom Fields view mentioned above.  Find the Story Points field, and from the gear dropdown menu, choose Screens.  Set the field as Selected for the screens in your project.

Hi Jose,

Welcome on Community! Is it possible that you're not admin of your Jira instance? If so, it's "expected": custom fields (non native) can't be imported by users.

If you're an admin, this should not be the case though..

Can you please let us know?

Cheers

Thanks, I noticed I can map id, needs and priorities. Nonetheless im still unable to properly import assignee and user story points. These 2 fields im updating it manually.

For assignee I get the error message that user doesnt exist, im importing with the email address addedd in the user management section. For user story points I cant locate the right field in jira to map from my backlog.

Thanks in advance.

Hi again,

Have you tried using the username instead of email? That's the way I've done import and never had issues!

As per the story points, again, if you're admin the field should show in the suggestions when you start typing!

Cheers
