Custom group picker field

I'm trying to create a custom field that will be identical to the Group Picker field but will display only certain groups and not all the available groups.

Is there any easy way to implement this?

This problem has been asked before.  I would recommend checking out these two community threads:

I believe that both of these are actually using Scriptrunner in order to restrict the specific group values that can be entered into this field.  It is possible that there might be other plugins for jira that can also achieve the same kind of customization here.  I hope this helps.
