Custom field question

Rumceisz July 16, 2012

Hi All,

we have a custom field in our Jira instance which contains all the project names of the instance. This a multi-select field currently and the admins keep updating whenever a project is created or deleted.

This custom field is very important because when the project leads submit a user account request or any other request on their project(s), they just choose the appropriate project(s) from the list and the admins know where to give access rights or help.

Now we migrated a different Jira instance to ours and currently we have up to 300 projects. You already know what is the problem: updating this custom field is very cumbersome and the more inconvinience is for the users: rolling a multi select field with 300 options is unmanageable.

Can you suggest a solution for this? Maybe a filter list where the users can search fields according to the first letter of the project? Or according to project types?

We also would like to achieve an automatic update of this field: hance the project leads often change the project names, so it would be be fabtastic to achieve that the options of the field would automatically updated.

Any idea guys?

Thanks for your help!

Rumi

Filter list with autocomplete: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.keplerrominfo.jira.plugins.databasecf

It's free. You will have to create 2 tables in the DB, one to show the project profiles (A, B, Both A & B) (database CF)and one to list which projects belong to which profile (datatable CF).

However, you are trying to resolve what we resolve through this plugin: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.keplerrominfo.jira.plugins.rightsdna . It splits users into families having the same sources for permissions, so instead of managing 300 projects you manage just the profiles (we called them families). Plus, it has sanity reports and advices.

Try it, IMHO makes the management of users more easy & saves a lot of time .
