Custom field in JIRA issue showing last released version of a project

Is there a way to create a custom field that checks the versions for that project and displays the latest version only? Currently setting the default value in a version picker custom field picker involves manually choosing a version to be displayed.

Ideally I am looking for a way in which the default value will always be updated  to the last released version. Is this possible?

Thanks!

You can do so by writing custom code. Do you have JIRA Server or JIRA Cloud? Do you have any scripting addons like Scriptrunner?

I have JIRA Server and currently no addons. What would be your recommendation?
