Create new user without password

Wolfgang Platzer July 15, 2012

Hello,

I created a new user for jira without password and this user got an email with a "set my password" link. But when the user clicks on this link a jira login screen appears where the user already has to know his password?

The reset password link in the email work, but is this behaviour desired?

kr,

Wolfgang Platzer

Is this really a bug or expected behavior on Atlassian's part? As a user I'd be upset/confused and call my admininstrator. As a JIRA Admin, I'd have to explain the behavior to the user.

This is indeed, a bug in JIRA. Please refer to https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-29287 for more information.

I have the same problem as Wolfgang in our OnDemand installation. As I interpet the documentation on managing users (https://confluence.atlassian.com/x/nwESCw) the user who get the "Account created" mail should be able to use the "Set my password" link for 24 hours without having to login before setting a password. But if you use it you are first promted to login.

As Wolfgang states the reset password link works, but it gives a really crappy impression to have to use it. Is it really meant to work this way? We are currently not using the automatic mail due to this.

My guess is that this is acutally a "bug" as it does not behave according to documentation.

Look carefully at the screen. When switching a password via Forgot-My-Password, you should only have to enter the new password twice, but not actually need the old one.

Usually while creating a user, you need to provide a password. In case you did not, one is generated automatically. That's a normal behavior. Check this: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Managing+Users#ManagingUsers-Creatingauser

Hope that helps !!!
