Copying data from Parent to new Sub-task?

Hey Smarties,

My users create many sub-tasks and are asking for a solution to automatically copy over standard fields like Assignee, Reporter, Labels in addition to a few custom fields.

This would seem a common request and I cannot find a solution. Could imagine custom development with ScriptRunner but wanted to ask first in case I missed something.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi @Robert Leachman

Here's a sample example of how you can do it using Jira Automation which you can access from the Jira Project Settings / System Admin settings.

Oh sure! I will give it a shot, seems straight-forward :) Thanks!!

The problem with this approach is it fires after the good Create Subtask screen is submitted. I can see how it would help with fields that aren't required, but my user cannot post the issue until they provide answers for the repetitive questions.

Said another way, maybe we would be OK copying after-the-fact the Description, but are hoping for a solution for Summary too. Makes sense? Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,

If you need to copy customfield you'll need Automation for Jira or Scriptrunner.
