Copy tab between sceens in the same project

Daniel Ehrlich February 25, 2014

In JIRA 6 is there a way to copy a tab from one screen to another within the same project? Or, better yet between screens in different projects. We have a 'customer information' tab that appears in all projects and it would be most convienent if we only needed to update it in one place.

Basically, no, but there's a lot more we could talk about if you could tell us what you mean by "tab"? Where is it currently appearing and how is it being provided?

It appears as a tab on all of the issue screens (Administration->Issues->Screens) across all of our projects. Right now, we have to recreate/update this tab every time we add a new project or need to add or rmove fields.

Ah, ok, so it's a tab on issue screens.

Screens are independent entities, and designed to be different, so no, there's no easy way to do this.

However, it sounds like you aren't sharing screens, which is another thing that they are designed for - if you reused the same screens, you wouldn't have to do any copying, the tab would be there for any project using that screen.

Most places using Jira define groups of shared screens - you might well have 1000 projects, but all the development ones use "development screen scheme", all the support ones use "support screen scheme" and so-on, so you only have to maintain a handful, and new projects get the standard stuff automatically.
