Changing the type of custom field from multi Selectable to Single Selectable

Deleted user October 3, 2017

Hello we have a custom field which is "Multi-Selectable" type and wanted to convert this to "Single  Selectable". Is this possible? I do know that we can create a new custom field (Single Selectable) with a different name ,do bulk copying from the old field to the new field and delete the old custom field and rename the new custom field to the name of the old custom field. However this will break all the existing filters which uses the old custom field as the custom field ids will be different.

Can you please help how we can do this so that it does not break our existing  filters?

@[deleted], here is the process but it requires editing the DB and may not work on newer versions.  Always worth a try in a development environment.

It's still valid, for the listed field types.

In your case, do NOT ignore the warning that's not well highlighted in the middle.  "When moving from a Multi Select List to a Select List, you have to make sure that only one item is selected for each multi select list."

If you get that wrong, you can end up with an unusable Jira.
