Change workflow, what will happen to issues already mapped to a status?

Dan Parker June 25, 2014

We have the need to change the workflow a project is using. I have created the new workflow which drastically different from the simplified agile workflow the project is using now.

When I assign the workflow what will happen to issues that are already in a mapped status? Besides backups, are there any other best practices that can I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Dan,

JIRA will show you a wizard to migrate any issues in statuses that do not exist in the new workflow, and issues in statuses that continue to exist will remain in those statuses.

As for the backup, create both an XML backup and a dump just to be safe, and possibly a copy of your JIRA Home in case you need to revert the backup WITH indexes ASAP - see https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Backing+Up+Data

Cheers
