Change available options in a custom field based on the status of the issue?

I have a requirement to change the available options in the drop-down of a custom-field based on the status of the issue. I took a look at the Dynamic Forms plugin, but it looks like it can only key off of another custom field, not the out-of-the-box status field. 

Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this?
