Change Board admin on Team Managed project

I am in the process of deleting a user but when I check in the View all Boards view I can see that this user is admin for several Boards. I have removed him as Project leads in projects and also as owners for Dashboards and Filters. But I guess (?) I would have to change also these Admin roles he has for certain Boards.

My problem is related to boards for Team managed projects. I can't find where to change this for these kind of projects? Does anyone know? There is no problem with changing Board admin for Company managed projects but what do I do with the Team Managed?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Linda Korpås

If the user is listed as a board admin in a Team-managed project, it’s because they are assigned the Project Administrator role for that project. In Team-managed projects, boards are closely tied to the project itself, and there isn’t a separate concept of a "Board Admin" like in Company-managed projects. To resolve this:

  1. Go to the Team-managed project where the board exists.
  2. Navigate to Project settings > Access.
  3. Check the list of users and roles. If the user is listed as a Project Administrator, either:
    • Change their role to something less privileged, or
    • Remove them from the project entirely if they no longer need access.

Since you’ve already removed the user as a Project Lead in Company-managed projects and reassigned dashboard/filter ownership, this should be the final step for Team-managed boards. Once the user is no longer a Project Administrator, they won’t have admin control over the board.

Kind Regards

Utkarsh

Thank you for your answer.

I have checked Project Access settings and there was no user that had the Administrator role for this project. I have already set this user up for Deletion, could this be the reason to why I can't see him having the admin role under Project access settings? and therefore can't remove him?

I have added two other Admins for the project but the user up for deletion is still listed as Board admin in the View all Boards view.

Do ýou think this will cause a problem?

When a user is set for deletion, they might still show up in some areas, such as the View all Boards view, as an admin or with other permissions, even though you can no longer see them in the Project Access settings. This is because their account is still in a pending deletion state and their permissions might not be fully cleared from all views just yet.

Here’s what might be happening:

  • Project Access: If the user is no longer listed under Project Access, then their permissions in the Team-managed project should be removed. The issue you’re seeing is likely just a visual artifact while their account is pending deletion.
  • Board Admin Role: The user might still appear as an admin in the View all Boards view because their admin role was linked to the project they were an admin of. Since you’ve added other admins to the project, you should be fine once the user’s deletion is fully processed.

Will This Cause a Problem?

It shouldn’t cause any major issues, but if you need to make changes or reassign specific boards, the user might still appear as an admin until their account is fully deleted. Once the user’s account is deleted completely, their admin role should be removed automatically.

In the meantime, I’d recommend waiting for the deletion to finish and then double-checking the board and project settings.
