Cannot remove a user from role of project

Olivier Crozier September 25, 2012

Context:

This problem occurs for one user only.

His login in the Active Directory was aUseR (with some uppercases). Crowd was in sync showing the user as aUseR. JIRA was in sync showing the user as auser (lowercases) due to the existing configuration in Crowd.

As we could not fix the issue (see symptoms) we tried to rename the user in the Active Directory as auser. We synced Crowd (via a backup/restore) to reflect that change. JIRA is still showing the user as auser.

We also re-indexed the database. We also tried to create another Crowd Directory in JIRA to pick up the logins from it.

But the problem persists.

Symptoms:

From the administration console of the project, in the People section, we cannot kick the user out of the role Developer.

Looking at the operations this user can do (via the menu Users > The link Project Roles for this user in the column Operations) the user is not a member of the role Developer for this project.

We can Edit Project Roles and tick the box on. The user is still not a member of the role Developer for this project. More strange: in the project, in the People section, there are 2 users with the same name. But we can only kick one out.

We tried to kick the user out via a jelly script. This does not work too.

Hi Olivier, you've tried so many things!!

I really believe the best you can do right now is to copy and paste this awesome description to a support case with Atlassian at support.atlassian.com.

They'll probably know better how Crowd deals with AD and how to edit/add things directly in the database -- which seems to be the only way to go right now.

You'll prolly have to delete/edit/add a few lines, and I'm sure support will know what to do!
