Can you add an active sprint to a velocity chart?

Daviddd January 4, 2021

The Velocity Chart shows Commitment and Completed for each sprint that was completed. Does not show Commitment for currently active sprint. Also, under Backlog there are bubbles that show you the number of points Not Started, In Progress and Done from the total current points. But, does not show the Commitment number of points (number of points when the sprint was started).

Without a means to see the Commitment for active spring, missing information needed to determine if doing well and if will meet or exceed commitment by end of spring.

Can the active sprint be added to the Velocity Chart or the Commitment number be added to the backlog view?

Hello @Daviddd

As far as I know you can't add this information to the Velocity chart until the sprint is closed.

However, if you need more information on the current Sprints, you can achieve it using some gadgets of the Dashboards, like a sprint Health gadget for instance that can display the amount work done, in progress and to do in terms of Story Points of Time Estimate depending the estimation metric your are using.

Could this help you ?

Hello @Daviddd Welcome :)

The Sprint Velocity chart is an average of the past delivered story points, which is calculated once the sprint is completed, it is helpful to predict or forecast the capacity of the team with respect to the backlog items.

to see the performance of the active sprint, - you may always/anytime during the active sprint see the sprint report

The 3 Bubbles in Backlog Page, they are there to give you a quick understanding of the sprint dynamics.

To see the changes or the scope creep in a sprint, I suggest the below ways:

1. use the Sprint health gadget in the dashboard, it will show you the changes in a sprint as a % and it looks quite cool.

2. the sprint report or the burn down chart can give you a promising idea of the active sprint workings.

Use the daily scrum meet to flash the burndown and scope creep with the team.! (if working in Remote) else use a board.!

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the question.!
