I need to check if there's a way to create a post function on the status, so whenever a user sets the epic to that status, the post function is run.

But as per some of the posts I have gone through, it mentions we MUST go through a transition to change status of a workflow?

"Transition" is the action when you are changing status.

That means, when user change Epic status from A to B (as you describe) here, at this moment do something.

This moment call post-function in transition, which sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
