Can an add-on create new tables into the database of an OnDemand JIRA instance?

I would like to know if an add-on for JIRA OnDemand (developed with Atlassian Connect) can extend the database of an OnDemand JIRA instance by adding new tables. I was thinking to something similar with Active Objects, for instance. And if is not possible, what are the alternatives for storing extra-data related to JIRA objects (projects, users, JIRA issues) in the context of JIRA OnDemand?

Thank you!

Not really. There are issue entities ( ) but in general the idea is that you store it in your db.
